Nitrous Oxide(N2O) gas Analyzer(ATEX / IECEx)

Overview

The ppm-level and percentage-level (%) N2O (Nitrous Oxide) infrared gas analyzers leverage Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) technology for highly selective online monitoring. The ppm-level analyzer is extensively applied in environmental greenhouse gas tracking, soil science research, and agricultural emissions, as well as biological nitrogen removal in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to optimize aeration processes and reduce carbon footprints. Meanwhile, the percentage-level (%) analyzer specializes in medical anesthesia delivery monitoring, medical gas piping checks, and high-concentration industrial process control in nitric acid/adipic acid chemical synthesis and electronic specialty gas purification.

Principle

Various polyatomic gases (CO, CO2, CH4, etc.) absorb infrared light not the whole band, but only a part of the band, which are called characteristic absorption bands. Different gases have different infrared absorption wavelengths. Infrared photometry analyzer is based on the characteristic of selective absorption of infrared radiation at different wavelengths of certain gases. When infrared light pass through a gas mixture, the measured component of the gas absorbs the infrared radiation energy, according to the Lambert-Beer absorption law, the concentration of a gas can be determined from the change in light intensity.

Application

• Greenhouse Gas (GHG) & Environmental Monitoring [ppm Range]

  • Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Off-Gas: Measuring trace N2O (typically 0–300 ppm, peaking up to 3000 ppm during transient phases) generated during biological nitrification and denitrification processes in aeration tanks to optimize process efficiency and minimize GHG emissions.

  • Agricultural Soil Emission Studies: Continuous monitoring of soil-generated N2O in flux chambers (under various fertilization schemes) to study nitrogen cycle dynamics and mitigate agricultural greenhouse footprints.

  • Industrial Flue Gas (CEMS): Tracking micro-level N2O emissions in combustion flue gases of waste incinerators, fossil-fuel power plants, and chemical manufacturing stacks to ensure regulatory compliance.

• Medical Anesthesia & Workplace Safety [Percentage % to ppm Range]

  • Anesthetic Gas Mixing Control [% Range]: Real-time percentage monitoring of patient-inhaled breathing gas mixtures (often a combination of N2O and O2 in conscious sedation or general anesthesia) to prevent under- or over-sedation.

  • Scavenging System Verification [ppm to low % Range]: Monitoring dental clinic and surgical theater ambient air to verify the efficiency of active gas scavenging systems, protecting healthcare workers from occupational exposure to N2O leaks.

• Chemical Manufacturing & Process Control [Percentage % Range]

  • Adipic Acid & Nitric Acid Production: Tracking raw N2O concentration in tail gases of chemical production lines where nitric acid is used to oxidize cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol, managing direct process emissions and thermal abatement performance.

  • Electronic Specialty Gas Purification: Monitoring intermediate and bulk concentrations of N2O during purification stages for ultra-high purity (UHP) electronics-grade N2O (used as an oxygen source in CVD semiconductor thin-film deposition).

• Food Industry & Propellant Blending [% Range]

  • Aerosol Propellant Quality Control: Verification of percentage-level N2O purity used as an approved propellant in whipped cream dispensers, food packaging, and non-stick cooking sprays.
